In 1901, by authority of the Alabama Constitution, Article V, Section 124, the attorney general, secretary of state, and state auditor were named members of an advisory Board of Pardons which assisted the governor by submitting written opinions regarding the granting of paroles, pardons, and revocations. This series consists of recommendations made by the Board of Pardons and listings of recommendations. Information available in these records includes the criminal's name, crime, sentence, date of sentence, any previous actions of the Board of Pardons, and space for the signatures of the secretary of state, the attorney general, and the state auditor. These records were created by the Board of Pardons during the administration of Governor Charles Henderson (1915-1919).
